Wedding dress code

The dress code is Suits / Mörk Kostym. However, we’d rather have you dressing for the weather if it is cold, wet and/or icy. Most of the celebrating will be inside in the warm, but for those who would enjoy it there is a beautiful 1.5km walk between the church and the reception venue.

Dressing for Stockholm

Stockholm in February is likely to be cold: We will check the forecast in the days beforehand and make sure that we are prepared for snow, rain, ice or anything else in between.

Assume that you will be comfortable and warm inside (even in Church) but be prepared to bring cold weather coats , heavy gloves and thermals for when you are outside and travelling around. It has already been -15 in December and can get even colder.

For the Brits: please don’t make the classic mistake of assuming that your London/ UK winter footwear is going to be suitable. You will end up with soaking wet or freezing feet and will run the risk of slipping over. Most people will have one set of boots for walking around outside (sometimes with ice grips) and will then change into smarter shoes when inside. It is likely to be cold enough to wear snow boots or slushy/wet enough to need some form of waterproof boot.

Travelling from the church to the reception

Hedvig Eleonora Church is located in central Stockholm, very close to Östermalmstorg metro station. The reception will be held at Skeppsbron 10 in Gamla Stan.

We would suggest taking a nice 20 minute walk (1.5km) between the church and the reception, along the water and past the Royal Palace. Members of the wedding party will help provide directions. There is also the option of a 10 minute taxi journey if you would prefer. If you need any assistance, Karin’s family and the local Stockholmers will be able to help.

Getting from Arlanda Airport to Central Stockholm

The Arlanda Express is a very fast way into the center of town. You can buy tickets before hand or on arrival. It is clearly signed and easy to get to even with bags.

If you want to take a taxi there are a few tips to follow:

  • Only take: StockholmTaxi, SverigeTaxi or Taxi Kurir

  • Identify the car you want to walk to it and the driver will come and help you.

  • Ask for a fixed price to the centre of town. Don’t accept a price that is more than 850SEK

Taxis

If you want to take a taxi, we would recommend only using Taxi apps Uber or CabOnline to get around town. The taxi industry in Stockholm is unregulated and can be a pitfall for visitors. The situation is better than a few years ago but don’t be tempted to hail a cab and jump in. You may find yourself being stung with 1000SEK trip to go 300m.

Public Transport

Stockholm has excellent busses and Metro. No need for travel cards, you can just tap your bank card. It is also a small city and very walkable: 45 mins from Vasastan in the North to Södermalm in the South. Scooters are an amusing way to get around but can be a little dicey in certain weather.
